It has been a week without dragons breathing fire into our screens, and we miss them already.
On August 9, the third eight-episode season of “House of the Dragon” came to an end, closing another chapter of the Targaryen civil war.
Prior to that, on January 18, 2026, the dynamic duo of Egg and Ser Duncan made their debut in “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”, the latest addition to the Game of Thrones universe.
The six-episode series, based on George R.R. Martin’s “Tales of Dunk and Egg” novellas, follows Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall and his young squire, Egg, roughly a century before the events of the original Game of Thrones.
But with “House of the Dragon” now on break and the first season of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” already behind us, what comes next for the world of Westeros?
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms 2
Fortunately for us fans, there has been confirmation already for the second season of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”, so we won’t have to wait long for another tale from the fascinating world of Westeros.
HBO renewed the series for Season 2, with the continuation of Egg and Ser Duncan’s adventures expected to premiere in the first half of 2027.
The upcoming season will draw from “The Sworn Sword”, the second novella in Martin’s “Dunk and Egg” series.
Production on the second season has also wrapped, bringing us one step closer to the return of the unlikely duo.
House of the Dragon’s final season
After we finish following the young Targaryen prince and his hedge knight companion, we will return to a time when dragons still ruled the skies.
HBO has already confirmed that “House of the Dragon” will return for a fourth and final season in 2028.
The announcement came before the third season premiered, confirming that the Targaryen saga would conclude with season 4.
Production is expected to begin in 2027.
Aegon’s Conquest
But HBO’s plans for Westeros do not necessarily end with the Targaryen civil war.
“Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest”, a feature film centered on Aegon I Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros, is the latest major project announced for the franchise.
Warner Bros. revealed the film’s working title during its CinemaCon presentation in April 2026, and will be written by Beau Willimon.
The story will transport the fans to one of the pivotal moments in Westeros’ history – Aegon the Conqueror’s attempt to unite the majority of the Seven Kingdoms under Targaryen rule – almost 300 years before the events of the first Game of Thrones.
So, while it has been one week without dragons, fans can take comfort from knowing that the world of Westeros is still far from over.
