The cast of the new generation of mutants was unveiled during the D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event on August 14, introduced by the president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, as they gear up to penetrate the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The new X-Men lineup launched Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, who debuted in the smash hit Spider-man: Brand New Day, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Maya Boyd as Storm, Inde Navarrette as Rogue and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost.
Adam Driver will also join the cast as Nathaniel Milbury, a character associated with the X-Men villain Mister Sinister.
“When Kevin told me to show up for X-Men, I assumed he meant on set,” Driver was quoted as saying in the article published by Marvel.
“So instead of being there in California, I’m here at Pinewood [Studios] on this very lonely soundstage. Kevin and I have been talking for years about maybe joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And I think we finally found the perfect film at the perfect time. So I’m very excited to be playing Mag…. Nope. Even better. Nathaniel Milbury. So I’ll be right here, waiting for everybody to show up,” he added.
From Fox to MCU
The world was first introduced to X-Men back in 2000 by 20th Century Fox, which established Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, who is probably the most popular mutant in the franchise, alongside Ian McKellen as Magneto, and Patrick Stewart as Professor X.
Despite the X-Men being an original comic from Marvel created by San Lee and Jack Kirby in 1963, it was not introduced to the main timeline of the current MCU until the Multiverse Saga.
During Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in 2022, Stewart reprised his role as Professor X, but as a version of the character from another universe.
The integration of the mutants in MCU became more apparent in Deadpool & Wolverine released in 2024.
The most direct incorporation of the beloved mutants into the MCU is the weaving of Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey in Marvel Studio’s most recent offering, Spider-man: Brand New Day.
The transition is expected to become even more prominent with Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026.
X-Men’s next MCU chapter
Marvel’s upcoming X-Men movie will feature a new ensemble rather than simply continuing the previous film series.
Sink, Connor, Abbott, Boyd, Navarrette and Weaving will take on roles previously portrayed by other actors, giving the franchise a fresh and younger identity.
Jake Schreier, who previously directed Thunderbolts, will helm the upcoming X-Men film, which is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2028.
However, the movie’s plot, other character announcements, and X-men related updates are yet to unfold, according to Fiege.
With the cast now revealed, Marvel’s mutants are moving from longtime Fox characters and multiverse visitors toward becoming an established part of the MCU’s next chapter.
For one of Marvel’s most well-known superhero teams, the announcement ushers in a new era.
