ATSEYE has brought its story to the big screen with Katseye: Wild Hearts, the global girl group’s first-ever documentary film.
The movie, which premiered on August 12, is now showing in cinemas for a limited run.
It is directed by Nadia Hallgren, who previously documented KATSEYE’s formation in the Netflix series Pop Star Academy: Katseye.
The story follows the group’s members as they navigate the demands of global stardom, performances, music production and personal growth.
It also features behind-the-scenes footage and intimate moments intended to present members as individuals rather than simply pop stars.
Formed through the 2023 talent-competition reality show The Debut: Dream Academy, KATSEYE has rapidly grown into a global pop act, earning Grammy nominations, major festival appearances and a dedicated international fandom known as Eyekons.
The documentary looks back on that rise while highlighting the pressures and challenges that came with it.
The other side of success
At its core, Katseye: Wild Hearts serves as a message of gratitude to the fans who have supported KATSEYE throughout its journey.
The members and filmmakers have described the project as a love letter to Eyekons, while the film also acknowledges the group’s evolution as artists and individuals.
Fans have responded enthusiastically to the theatrical release, particularly to the documentary’s emotional behind-the-scenes moments.
Online discussions praised the opportunity to see the members’ personalities and journey more closely, with some viewers expressing excitement over seeing footage of Manon Bannerman and hearing the members speak warmly about her importance to the group.
“I honestly think the girls really want her back, i personally think the reason they are saying the things in the interviews is because they are just trying to give her the decision if she wants to come back and that her spot is always there. Not that she has already left yk?” one person commented on a discreet TikTok clip, pointing out the scene where Bannerman was still present.
“I hope manon comes back it’s just gonna be very heartbreaking to see such a precious friendship part ways she brings so much laughter to this group,” another commenter added.
As of this writing, KATSEYE is going through a significant transition.
Originally, there were six members: Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel, Sophia Laforteza, Yoonchae Jeung and Bannerman.
However, the group is currently promoting with only four members because Bannerman and Laforteza are both taking a break.
Bannerman has been on a hiatus since February to focus on her health and wellbeing, while Laforteza announced her own temporary withdrawal earlier this month, also to prioritise her health.
Regardless, KATSEYE is still moving forward.
