There is plenty of horse racing action on Saturday, June 27 – and here are some tips and predictions for the meetings and races at Newcastle and York in the UK.
Newcastle 1.40 – Brighton Boy can spring a surprise
BRIGHTON BOY has been knocking on the door for some time and looks capable of causing an upset at rewarding odds.
Tim Easterby’s runner looked set to justify support at York last time before his early exertions took their toll in the closing stages.
A favourable draw forced him to use plenty of energy early, but if David Allan can find some cover during the race, there’s every chance he’ll finish much stronger this time around.
With his current form reading well and odds of around 14/1 available, he makes plenty of appeal as an each-way play.
Newcastle 2.10 – Heavenly Heather can strike at her favourite venue
Few horses are more dangerous than one arriving in peak form, and HEAVENLY HEATHER fits that description perfectly ahead of the Chipchase Stakes.
While Newcastle has always looked her ideal track, her recent turf performances have shown she’s simply thriving wherever she runs.
Her excellent effort in the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot, where she finished just two lengths behind the winner, was arguably a career-best display.
Connections have wasted little time turning her out again, and with odds of around 9/1, she looks generously priced given the strength of her recent form.

Newcastle 3.15 – Dancing In Paris can go one better in the Plate
The feature race of the day could finally belong to DANCING IN PARIS, who was runner-up in last year’s Northumberland Plate and appears to have been targeted at this contest once again.
Ian Williams’ stayer should strip much fitter after his recent outing at Epsom, and his form from last summer suggests he’s more than capable of winning a race of this nature.
For those looking for another contender at bigger odds, TEAM PLAYER also catches the eye.
He’s progressing with every run this season, following a dominant Musselburgh success with a respectable staying-on fifth in the Chester Cup.
The extra emphasis on stamina here could suit him perfectly, making him an interesting each-way option.
Newcastle 3.45 – Annaf can capitalise on a falling handicap mark
Last year’s winner Fivethousandtoone commands respect, but a higher handicap mark makes life tougher this time around.
Instead, the vote goes to ANNAF, whose current rating could leave him dangerously well treated.
He has already proven himself at Listed and Group 3 level, and his recent form doesn’t tell the full story.
Dropping below the 100 mark could be exactly what he needs to return to winning ways, and this looks an ideal opportunity to bounce back.
York 2.25 – Naana’s Shadow can continue her progression
NAANA’S SHADOW has developed into a rapidly improving sprinter and looked hugely impressive when scoring at Epsom last time out.
A strongly-run five furlongs clearly suits her, while Oisin Murphy extracted the very best from her on that occasion.
The champion jockey keeps the ride here, which is another positive, and another bold showing looks likely.
At a much bigger price, HANNEY GIRL is worth keeping on side.
Back over five furlongs on quick ground, conditions are much more in her favour, and she’s capable of outperforming her odds if returning to her best.
York 3.38 – Who’s Lope can make a winning start in staying company
WHO’S LOPE looks another typical improver from the Andrew Balding stable and could have plenty more to offer now stepping up in distance.
The well-bred son of Lope De Vega shapes as though this longer trip will unlock further improvement, while his opening handicap mark appears workable.
Expected to start around the 3/1 mark, he looks attractively priced for a horse with significant untapped potential and can make a successful introduction to the staying ranks.
